My cat cleans itself. Why should I get it professionally groomed?

Cats lick themselves which leaves their coat covered in saliva on top of dirt and grease. They also ingest hair which can lead to vomiting or intestinal blockages. All cats should have their nails trimmed and their coats de-greased with soap and water at a minimum. Professional grooming will help with shedding and the amount of hair your cat ingests.

Do short-haired cats need groomed?

Short-haired cats can shed more than some long-haired cats. A bath and blow dry will help prevent hairballs, intestinal blockages, as well as reduce the amount of hair that you'll find all over your house. Plenty of short-haired cats become matted. Short-haired cats should be brushed regularly, nails trimmed, and the oil and dirt in their coats maintained with a bath every 6-8 weeks.

What are the health benefits of grooming?

Regular professional grooming prevents matting which causes lots of discomfort for your kitty. Matting can also lead to sores, infections, or worse. Grooming prevents ingestion of large amounts of hair which cause vomiting due to hairballs and possibly medical treatment for intestinal blockage.

How often should your cat be groomed?

This will depend on the type of coat your cat has and how often you brush it. To keep your cat's coat in optimal condition, some cats need to be groomed every 4-6 weeks while others can go every 8 weeks. The interval is customized to what seems right for you and the grooming needs of your cat.

My senior cat has always groomed itself but is now having trouble, why is this?

As cats get older they seem to get greasier or the build up over the years without grooming becomes a problem and they tend to want to lick themselves less. It's especially important for them to be groomed with a bath when needed. Even short-haired cats can get matted. Mats are a big concern for older cats due to the high risk of shaving on their ultra thin skin and thinner bodies. This is why mat prevention with regular grooming is so important to start at a young age.

How long are the appointments?

Usually 1-2 hours per cat. More time may be needed for first time visits, if extra services are added, or if your kitty has any matting or tangles.
